Your English is indeed fine. It sure is a lot better than that of a friend of mine, and he's studying to be an English teacher.

Anyway, since WWI is in vogue, these days, I thought I'll post my shell.

DSCN0177.jpg

It's a 1916 made 18 pounder artillery shell. I was unable to get a clear picture of the markings on the back, unfortunately.

They read (top to bottom, shell markings first, then fuse markings):

18 Pr, II, HH, 14-9 16, C.C. & F., 45-L, Dag (in a square) F, 1916

5/17, No I/III, F. 7, M S.S

Nice casing that you have there. You should buy a matching dug up 18 pounder projectile for it. If i see one for sale i will let you know.

Still need to work on my pronunciation though. Same with my Dutch and French. I tend to not speak clear. mumble a bit sometimes.

Here is a nice bayonet. I will stay in the WW1 theme for a bit also with all these remembrance events at this time.
US made Remington bayonet model 1913. Made in March 1916. It might be American made, but not american used.

Back to the Berthier for the last time (this model at least). I made a small movie explaining some things, I hope its clear and i don't spread to much BS, this is one of the first times i do anything like this and it might be boring and of bad quality. I apologise for it, i did not want to waste 5 minutes of your time. Listening to myself makes me realize my english is terrible. lol.

That's a nice piece there Siben! Your english is fine also, and your accent isn't obstructive at all.

It's pretty hard to imagine any situation where you'd find yourself firing at a target 2,400 meters away though.:) I came across a Lebel rifle from around the same period once (the kind that the devs showed off before!), not sure how it came to America. It was in absolutely terrible condition though, so we ended up selling it to a restorer.

We found the rifle in the corner of my grandparent's basement, along with a Harper's Ferry Model 1816 musket, a Belgian-made percussion cap shotgun from not much later, and a Springfield model 1873 trapdoor. Sadly, all were completely inoperable, and I'm not sure if we still have any around. I'll have to look.

Cool, lots of old stuff you have there then, to bad somebody was lazy and did not maintain it.
Was it the Long WW1 Lebel or the Shortenend WW2 version.

Long barrel. It really was a shame, they were propped up behind a refrigerator in my grandparent's basement; they probably had been there for at least 50 years. We didn't even know that they had them. Of all of them only the Model 1873 was able to be restored to firing condition.

When you have a Bayonet, you also need a rifle for it. For those who have not guessed it yet, it is for a Remington made P-14 rifle. Made for the British army in WW1. Serial tells me that is was made near the end of 1916, beginning 1917.Sights are 100 and 500 yards i assume. I dont mind taking extra pictures of any of my items.

Thursday, a group of re-enactors will pass through my city. They're doing the retreat from Halen to Dendermonde in 1914. They'll do the whole distance on foot, horse, armoured car, and dog carts.

Expect pictures. :)

Dendermonde? that is a 20 minute drive from here.To bad that i have to work, it would have been interesting to see.
Is it the same guys that walked in the military parade on the 21st of July in Brussels?

Anyway, not much updates from me lately, been busy with work and issues home. I did get my hands on a big amount of WW2 amunition. I don't know what to do with it now, shoot it or keep it. its british/german/american. pistol/rifle/stg including tracer and ap.

On the third day of the retreat, the weary Belgian troops pass through Mechelen, and take a break.

New pictures of a super cool rifle. Is is a 1918 made Kar 98, or later known as a Kar98a. It had arsenal repairs done in 1920 probably, that is why it has 2 dates. Rifle is all matching, but not the stock, to great shame. This rifle really starts looking a lot like the K98k and is one of my favorite mausers. The bayonet is a 1937 made once but they where also produced already during WW1, even with sawback. Super hard to find here but they do show up from time to time and i hope to have one one day. It has some corosion damage on the crest, but all the rest is tip top.

2 Britse 18 pounders WW1 - Te koop | 2dehands.be

Hury up and get yourself the projectile for that casing. 2 fine looking unfired examples with a timed fuse for sale right there.

@siben

You knew that the Brazilian Army still exist Kar98? I didn't know, after serving 3 years, we had a training with weapons pre-historic (for me would come armed dinosaurs) but no, they were the kar98, my eyes shone like a child with a new toy.

I very much doubt that Brazil has K98k, to my knowledge the only mausers they used are the M1894 rifle and carbine, M1904 Mauser Vergueiro rifle, M1907 rifle and carbine, M1908 rifle and short rifle, M1922 Carbine, VZ24 short rifle, M1935 Mauser Banner rifle and short rifle, M1908/34 Short rifle and M954 Short rifle.

So, I just came back from town, there was a gathering of WWII vehicles in rememberance of the liberation of Mechelen. Nothing special, just a few jeeps, Dodges, a GMC, M3 Scout car, and a M8 Greyhound. The cool thing was they were doing tours of the town with a few vehicles, so I rode along in the back of a Dodge.

Some pictures.

No problem, more will show up and i will post them here for you.

Found some old american stuff for the M1 Carbine.
Mostly mid war and ofcourse dirty but it should still work after you clean them a bit. I hope to recover 95% of these.
