Map Ideas Thread

Agree with Callum, but an offline "training-court" might be something we can concider - a place for newcomers to get a hang of the essential mechanics behind the game.

Yeah thats really what i meant, it would be nice to have some maps for "training" or offline gaming, if your internet fails to connect (which sometimes it does plenty).

If possible, I think a paratrooper map where they have to destroy naval batteries would be well received, in a way similar to Objective Mode from FH2. Pegasus Bridge, since St. Mere Eglise was 101st and 82nd, I believe, would be good? I'm not sure.

Also, a map involving a German counterattack I'm guessing would come, to switch it up between Germans defending/British attacking. I don't know of a real life example though, my knowledge is limited.

I love that you are asking for feedback on map design/ideas...very nice! So I spent about 4 months working on a map for RO2 using SDK titled "Eagles Nest." While it is not an exact recreation of the real location I did have fun making the map & learned a great deal about map making using their SDK.

I would love to see/experience a map something like this:

- Rolling terrain with mud/dead grass/dead & destroyed trees
- Various stone walls/hedges that have taken some damage
- Night time with some atmospheric elements - i.e. rain, thunder, distant explosions, etc.
- Trench system throughout battlefield
- Barb wire, barb wire, bunkers, etc.
- Parachute flares either randomly going up or/and activated by trip wires

As you can see from my RO2 map I am really into the atmosphere that can be created in a map by using various FX effects and lighting schemes. I think a night time trench warfare map in the night would be fabulous! xD

Great to see you guys are asking for ideas....cheers!

About the maps and stuff, how about making a large city attack/beach invasion/taking over a factory or what not but make it a special event and advertise it so that 100's could participate in it and make it look like a real, massive battle. Make it once a month or every term for instance.

I think beach invasions are going to be in the latter chapters, if I'm not correct. :)

If we'll do one, we'll do it proper. ;) Perhaps do a chapter with beach invasions and para drops.

We're not sure where we'll go after Overlord; beaches are an option but nothing is set in stone. I like the city idea of visiting a city personally.

I also like the idea of a regular publicised battle though. Whether we'd have a specific map that we would only use at that time is debatable (and probably very unlikely). But on the regular maps, well that would still be fun. Also depends on server sizes etc...

sand, lots of sand after overlord! sandstorms, blowing up sand banks, vehicles breaking down due to sand ingestion.

I have never liked sand but until now with that post above, it sparked me...sand ingestion. :)

If I'm being bluntly honesty (I am), I often find WW2 shooters set in the desert horribly boring (Nap time, anyone?). There are far, far greater ideas floating around internally ;)

A humongous battle which the specific owl drops a big bomb and destroys the whole town.
