Immersion is, of course, hugely important to TW. Players need to feel like they're a member of the Wehrmarcht, defending Fortress Europe against the enemies of the Fatherland. Players need to feel like they're the tip of the Allied spear, pushing through France to free Europe from the chains of Nazi tyranny. They need to feel like they're in France in 1944. Immersion accomplishes this.

Immersion comes in many shapes and forms; everything from the boom of far-off artillery (think the scene in Saving Private Ryan where they're bunking in that church) to the chirping of birds in the trees next to you. From screenshots and videos, we've seen lots of immersive features in TW. In the weapon demos, for example, you can hear birds chirping and the sound of distant small arms fire, and you can see leaves flutter in the breeze. I'm really looking forward to seeing what kind of immersive features TW has in store for us! Anyway, here are some ideas for immersion :)

Flies buzzing over corpses. This is a must! To hear flies buzzing over the corpse next to you... not to be macabre, but it'd be awesome.

Moving clouds. And what if when clouds shrouded the sun, light on the map decreases by X percent, returning to normal when the cloud has passed? I know this sounds unnecessary and complex, but I'm just thinking out of the box!

Realistic night sky. To see real stars would be nice...

Far-off artillery sounds. Unfortunately, video games severely underappreciate the amount of artillery used in warfare. Hopefully this is not the case in TW ;)

Any other immersion features people want to see?

mmm I dont know if the flies try to put their eggs in a recent dead corpse...

confirmed. According the entomology, oviposition begins after 24 hours of death

Cryengine have dynamic weather, so yes of course that is possible

It could be great

I'm sure that they will put immersive sounds ;)

I would like record-player in some houses playing authentic music of that time :p

OH MY GOD YES! Imagine entering a house, and hearing some French classic from the 30s echoing through the rooms. I agree, some record players playing classics would be awesome, plus radios playing Radio Paris!

Indeed, though flies feed on liquids, and that means moist corpses. I remember Eugene Sledge talking about the sheer number of flies on Peleliu, and how they swarmed on any corpse available. So... maybe? If it's unrealistic, then yeah, we shouldn't have it. But if it is, it'd be an immersive feature.

That will be hard to implement, because player would start looking at the sky full of stars and would stop fighting...

xD Jokes apart,Im looking forward for all the features that you said (maybe flies on dead bodys are a little bit hardcore) and putting the opcion to change radios' dials to a 40's music program would be awesome! As I said in the planes' topic AA tracers flying through the sky in maps like Merville Battery would be also really cool. Also, one simple idea to increase immersion is the use of nazi propaganda posters in buildings' walls for city maps. I dont think many multiplayer ww2 games actually do that

On maps where it's realistic (so yeah, perhaps Merville Battery and Pegasus Bridge), distant AA tracers would be awesome :) And good idea on having Nazi propaganda! So something like this...

The surroundings add to the immersion, sure, but I believe that us, the players are the sole responsibles for creating the whole atmosphere. I mean, I will not feel like I'm in battle if my team is running around, doing stupid things, and not paying attention to the battle. I will feel like I'm actually fighting if the "ranks" (squad members/squad leader) are respected, if orders are followed, if the squad is running in a line or whatever or whatever tactic the leader ordered to do, and if the whole team is playing together.

I want to add that sure that basically drummer93 said it all, but the things with radios is that during the battles I'm sure that in 99% of the cases, the radios were turned off. It would be annoying to have that. You're trying to hear where the enemy is but can't due to the radio being played... Nah... It would get annoying in my opinion. I'm sure the devs know what they are doing and will get it right. They are not new to this, so they have it figured out and planned. If it goes wrong, it's ok, this is the first Chapter.

No in that way. I propose some record-player/radio inside houses (maybe one in a room only in a couple of maps), playing music in low volume. Remember that a lot of people still living in that places during the occupation and the invasion, and I think that it wouldn't strange. Just imagine that tense moment when you must verify a room, listening a famous french singer or a relaxing jazz song...

Other way is to be able to turn on and off music and radio programs,so that you can use them tactically in the other way: making the enemy not able to listen where you are or what you talk. Oh,and also relax after a tense combat situation or a long waiting with "Je ne regrette rien"

I can picture that in a scene left like the family dropped and ran for a shelter without stopping to turn off the radio. Knocked over chair.. drink still cooling on a side table... All those little details which make a room tell a story about the occupants.

Can't promise that for TWs (just think how many props/details there are to place!) but it's a nice aspiration.

yes, It could be great. Sadly, war involves more than beautiful vehicles and big explosions

Yeah, I was also thinking that too. Being able to turn it on and off.
drummer93, ok sure if it's like that then I wouldn't mind!

Just implement radios/record players like lights; when you shoot them, they turn off!

That works too! Hahaha... would this work as well with other objects though? I remember in Counter Strike, in the Militia map, if you threw a grenade in the toilet it would blow up. If there are any other objects, like glasses, cups and other things could you shoot them and break?

Ani what if there was a record player that survived the bombardment of that particular house and you can hear the recorder playing in that particular destroyed house.
Also what of dead cattle? Difficulty in moving around in the flooded fields of Normandy since Rommel had ordered them to open the dams.
Also tracers of anti air craft guns, distant explosions in the next town and you can hear it all the way here. But destructible environment to a certain extent is needed, so if you throw a grenade in the second floor of a house the explosion should blow open a closed window or the glass off the frames. Also when inside buildings, creaking of the wooden floor, also idk why I have seen pianos outside in the middle of the road in many games, idk why but is that immersive? If so who the heck puts a friggin piano in the middle of the road?
oh and those small wooden fences can be broken in the small towns, that would be great as well!
