Immersion is, of course, hugely important to TW. Players need to feel like they're a member of the Wehrmarcht, defending Fortress Europe against the enemies of the Fatherland. Players need to feel like they're the tip of the Allied spear, pushing through France to free Europe from the chains of Nazi tyranny. They need to feel like they're in France in 1944. Immersion accomplishes this.
Immersion comes in many shapes and forms; everything from the boom of far-off artillery (think the scene in Saving Private Ryan where they're bunking in that church) to the chirping of birds in the trees next to you. From screenshots and videos, we've seen lots of immersive features in TW. In the weapon demos, for example, you can hear birds chirping and the sound of distant small arms fire, and you can see leaves flutter in the breeze. I'm really looking forward to seeing what kind of immersive features TW has in store for us! Anyway, here are some ideas for immersion
Flies buzzing over corpses. This is a must! To hear flies buzzing over the corpse next to you... not to be macabre, but it'd be awesome.
Moving clouds. And what if when clouds shrouded the sun, light on the map decreases by X percent, returning to normal when the cloud has passed? I know this sounds unnecessary and complex, but I'm just thinking out of the box!
Realistic night sky. To see real stars would be nice...
Far-off artillery sounds. Unfortunately, video games severely underappreciate the amount of artillery used in warfare. Hopefully this is not the case in TW
Any other immersion features people want to see?
