the only thing i wish for ATM is NO ZOOM

Agreed in Most cases the zoom takes away from the gameplay instead of adding to it. Also as game modes are Not clear yet but naga? said you will be able to respawn how will this affect Tanks in Most Games you kill a tank just so it can respawn a Minute later

I would prefer something like a 1.25 zoom to emphasize you focussing down the sights. it would make sense since in real life you simply see better and sharper when you focus on something (the target down the sight) compared to scanning the wide area. since the game will show your whole field of view sharply and in real time (something that is not realistic at al, the human eye and brain does not work like that when you walk outside) it would make it more balanced and realistic.

Generally, the best way to represent that is to increase focus around the sight picture and decrease focus around the rest of the field of view methinks.

I would like to add to this subject,
I don't think that that is a good idea. Because "in real life" one can go into ironsights, but focus with his eyes on movement outside of the sights without moving his rifle. This happens very fluid and quick, I don't think you can recreate this in a game.
I'd stay away from zooming or focussing or blurring...

Just my humble opinion ;),

cheers

The problem is while yes, you can move your eye, you cannot look at the sight picture while doing so. It's more a gameplay thing, it would add the realism of losing focus to everything but the sight picture, as well as supporting suppression/tactical gameplay, as you won't simply be able to see everything around you crystal clear when shooting.

Maybe so, but blurring it would kill your peripheral vision, wont it? Hence i am a supporter of narrowing the field of view (maybe half? its trail and error for this to be found out ingame i think) and adding a small zoom.

A combination would also not be bad now that i think if it.

Yes, as in the game (almost any game) most things are in focus all the time unless some special post-processing is turned on. I find this rather artificial and a bit too filmic for my tastes, although it can be enjoyable eye-candy in less reaction-centred games. Even if the rest of the screen is in focus, one still has to look at areas that are outside the centre of the screen in order to 'see' them. We create the 'focus' ourselves, so I don't feel an approximation of the eye-brain linkage has to be built-in to the screen's image, when that same linkage is already in front of the screen!

Is it by any means possible to make the "focused" image sharper? So for instance aiming (focusing) at a soldier that is using camoflage to his advantage near some shrubbery might become more destinct from it's enviroment.

It would certainly be possible, but I'm not a huuuge fan of that idea. I think implementing it without it looking a little gimmicky or "gamey" (tagging enemies Battlefield-style) and keeping it with the theme of the game would be tricky. People are talking about wanting things true to real-life, and people don't get magically highlighted if you look at them long enough! :)

I don't mean highlighted, certainly not a very dominant effect. Just a small effect, something you barely notice but it's there.

Hi! It's my first post on the forum so i want to say hello to this great community of TW :) I have one question, because i didn't find anywhere a subject similar to this which i'm gonna bring up i need to ask here. I've watched every movie uploaded by the devs and i wonder how the weapon will react to the players mouse pointing(If you know what i mean.. :D). Some games like Red Orchestra or Insurgency allow the character to move the weapon freely on the screen without the crosshair, so you don't know precisely where your shoots are, instead you have to watch the enviroment for the signs of bullet impact. On the other side we have game like COD2 where our gun is pointed straight, the crosshair is in the middle of the screen so we know the exact direction of our shoots. So i ask, how about Traction Wars? I've been thinking that a very nice solution would be a mix of these two. A weapon pointed straight, but without the crosshair. You have to fight the recoil of the gun and shot with bursts, otherwise it will be hard to fire accurate from the hip. What you guys think? Cheers.

Basically that. Weapon will be pointed straight, without crosshair. Gun will have realistic recoil for hip shooting, IE, won't be very accurate unless in point blank distances (IE, room to room fighting or such). You'll have to use ironsights to hit anything beyond that distance without a great amount of luck involved.

There will be no crosshair :) Weapon sway - as in Ro2 or Insurgency - is something we're looking into. It is an interesting mechanic to make shooting a bit harder then just point and click.

What you're talking about is called free-aim and as hannibaldinski says it is something we are looking into.

It's a tricky balance between being realistic / discouraging hip shooting and making the game feel unwieldy by having the gun swaying around all over the place.

Thanks for the reply :) I think that the Insurgency free-aim is made better. Smaller weapon movement across the screen makes shooting easier, but not as easy as in classic shooters. Also the power of the hip fire recoil gives the player better impressions than in RO2.
