Hello everyone, I'm [TWDEV] Franky and I'm an artist on the Traction Wars team. Today I would like to share some of my most recent work with you. A German machine gun, namely the MG34. In the following images, you can take a look at the high poly model.

Of course, the model as shown in these rendered images cannot be imported into the engine directly. It is too detailed for a real-time 3D environment with its polygon count consisting of over 2 million triangles.
So you might wonder why we go to such lengths and produce these intricate models if they cannot be of immediate use for the game. Well, as some might know, the answer is quite simple. This whole process serves as a basis for several texture maps that are generated from a high poly model and ultimately these textures are then applied to a low poly weapon in order to give it the appearance and fidelity of the high detail version.
The most important texture to be gained from a high poly model would be a normal map. It basically interacts with the light in the game engine to create the illusion of structural details on surfaces that are actually flat. In the end, this saves a lot of rendering cost and the appearance of a low poly model consisting of several thousands of triangles will closely match the high detail version of the model.

Quick question, how will this MG34 and the MG42 be implemented ingame?
Randomized would be a bit too unrealistic, pickup kit? :D

I think the whole pickup kit thing needs to be reconsidered and reevaluated for things like weapons, its a bit dated.

Perhaps it would just depend on the map, or you have the choice to select either the MG42 or MG34 with-in the support class.

Great idea! :D Also another idea you can choose between if the K98k has the front hooded iron sight or the spike.

I spammed again... ;)

Prob not. It is the same sight for starters (just with/without a hood), and having the hooded sight was far far more common by 1944.

Also, yeah guys, there has been plenty of German stuff shown in previous updates....

Wow wow wow, holy Franky, nice job on the details, drooling to see it in action, especially since it is the first german weapon that we have seen in the game.

Next time, how about trying it at the shooting range :)?

I think people are screwing with us now! This is not the first German weapon/equipment we have shown!

LUGER
PANZERFAUST
K98
WALTHER P38
PANZER
ETC.

Don't forget this jolly taster. :p

Beautiful model once again. I'm enjoying all of the details, even those added to the bipod! I'd go through and talk about the parts but I'm too tired to ramble. It is true that the team is working on other forces instead of only British, their dev history proves it well. Thanks for the updates, they are a pleasure to read. Especially the information about the method the modeler is using to texture the model, it is a very interesting bit of information and is quite detailed too.
