@Sydd No, that's not my logic. I'm saying that put airplanes in a realistic game takes a lot of effort, not only to program in a proper way the flying models, that includes a lot of physics parameters (I study engineering, so I know what I'm talking about), also you have to prepare the maps to support that, because is very different see all in a "sky view". They are not making a mod like Forgotten Hope 2, that it have a (simple) flying model because is a mod of BF2, they are making a game from 0. I'm being realistic, and of course I would like too see player-controlled planes, but is really impossible

Agreed, I'm not entirely into the planes, Idc if they exist or they don't tbh but I get this eerie feeling that the community is sure to ask for planes at one point, knowing that the devs will most likely listen to the community the implementation of planes is imminent, whether they are player controlled or Ai, that I can't guess. It will take a long time to develop but by the time tanks are out the community will be huge and maybe a lot more people with skill will join the dev ranks and speed up the process.

Sydd yes of course the community will ask for planes, but obviously TW team can't do all the community want x)

We can make proposes, and the team will analyze the ideas, and make the best they can/want do

Touche, but as far as I know.. Naga was even interested in implementing naval combat at some point, I came across a thread where someone proposed naval warfare and naga liked the idea, with that being said, I wouldn't be surprised if they are already planning to implement player controlled planes, this dev team is ridiculously ambitious and deserve truckloads of cookies for their efforts! So yeah while I don't really expect to see planes in game, I wouldn't be surprised if they will be implemented.

Sydd, naval combat? wow, but it seems like a completely different game o_O Can you link me the thread? I want to read it

@Sydd, I prefer don't do something than do it wrong, and the flight simulation is one of the most difficult things to program, even when you do it in a simple way. Really don't expect player controlled planes in TW

As both a big fan of flight simulators (DCS anyone?) and one of the people that would have to work on the implementation in TW, I share this opinion. If it were done I think it should be well simulated, and that's something that would be very difficult and time consuming. Not to mention the issue of map sizes.

Honestly at this point I'm not sure it's even worth thinking about, what with the amount of work required to get infantry combat and tanks working nicely first.

the community is sure to ask for planes at one point, knowing that the devs will most likely listen to the community the implementation of planes is imminent

That's a very big assumption.

And I wouldn't say you're in the position to know whether the game will have certain features or not.

Didn't mean any offense, it's just that unless TW wants to stray from historical accuracy, there won't be bombers. They just weren't used tactically, unlike, for example, the Stuka.

@th_battleaxe you're absolutely correct, CAS wasn't very common, let alone when coordinated by infantry. I think the best way to account for this is by limiting the number of airstrikes to one? So airstrikes are a kind of commander's trump card ;) And, of course, the Germans would only get airstrikes on some maps, depending on the map. For example, two Focke-Wulfs on a Sword beach map :p

While I think player-controlled planes in TW are everyone's sweetest dreams, implementing them just isn't feasible. I don't want to begin to imagine the amount of programming... and the devs have enough on their plate already. Just leave it to airstrikes and immersion fly-by's.

And @Esu21 assuming the Flak 38 is usable, it'll be the menace of the infantry ;)

@ space

big assumption? I think it's logical. Think about it... So far every competitor tw has has planes implemented. HnG, battlegrounds Europe etc.
when the first episode is launched community will want to know when tanks will be introduced when tanks are launched community will want planes, I'm not making this up out of thin air but think about it planes are far superior to tanks and are capable of destroying tanks. Mark my words community will be sure to request planes after tanks are launched. I am
willing to bet 20 cookies xP

People will want planes, of course; that doesn't mean the devs are going to implement them. Just because H&G lets you pilot 109s and Lightnings as thought they're spacecraft doesn't mean the devs are going to implement planes, just to "get even".

I think calling H&G and WW2O "competitors" is a bit of an overstatement :p

Not to derail the thread but, FlyingR, just to clarify the base game is free. This comes with the Su-25T and TF-51 (trainer version of the P-51). The rest of the planes (modules) are sold separately. It's not directly comparable to IL-2 as, whilst there are a few WW2 planes, that's not its only focus. But I'm more interested in more modern planes/helicopters so it suits me better. Having the clickable cockpits is fantastic though.

We are not derailing, we are brainstorming for when TW implements planes! :D
Nice, yeah I knew about the clickable cockpit, that is pretty cool actually! Would tanks have this implemented in Chapter 2, if the tanks have any buttons that is? Or clicking to change the gears?

Well, we'd need some kind of interior for that... but who knows?

As for DCS, I'm just glad there's a WW2 plane in the free version!
