So I have a chance to get stuff shipped to me from the States, and I want to replace my current - crappy - Lenovo. For domestic reasons I need a gaming laptop that's around the $1000 range... any suggestions? I was looking at the ASUS ROG GL551JW-DS71, which has great stats for a sweet $1049. However, I only want a rig that'll get me good performance on TW... so help! Will this be enough?

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 2G GDDR5
Intel Core i7-4720HQ 2.6 GHz (Turbo to 3.6 GHz)
1 TB 7200 RPM HDD
16 GB DDR3 RAM

  • What are the minimum system requirements?

There is extensive testing and optimisation yet to be done but tentatively the minimum specs are as follows:
    • Operating System: Windows XP SP2, Windows Vista SP1, Windows 7, Windows 8
    • Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz, AMD Athlon 64 X2 2.0 GHz or better (a multi-core processor is strongly recommended)
    • Memory: 1 GB RAM (2 GB recommended)
    • Video Card: nVidia 8800GT 512MB RAM, ATI 3850HD 512MB RAM or better (SM 3.0 minimum)

Urm, Ani.. I will be honest.. just before the beginning of this month, I had a crappy Lenovo Y570A with the 555m gpu. It sucked, I hated it and just as this month began its hard drive gave up. I looked around the internet for good laptops, I came to one conclusion.. Laptops are inferior to Desktop gaming rigs, IF you can.. I suggest you go for a gaming rig not a laptop because they are a lot more cheaper in the long run.

My current desktop specs: ( I call it Xerses)

Asus Sabertooth Z87 TUF Edition motherboard.
Intel Core I7 4790k processor running at 4.0ghz
Asus GeForce GTX 680 2gb (To be replaced with the gaming edition MSi GeForce GTX 980Ti, not sure if its 4 gigs or 6 gigs)
Corsair DDR3 Vengeance 16 gigs @ 2400mhz
Corsair power supply Rm850 watts
Samsung SSD 850 Evo 500gb
NZXT Case H440 (Red and black)
Corsair H90 cpu cooler
LG LED monitor 24"
Windows 8.1 pro 64 bit
Logitech keyboard G105

The entire thing I am assuming would come to around 2k USD.

You can build a decent rig at 1k but if you can, go for a desktop instead of a laptop. I will post you some links:

The latter is the link for laptops. I wish you luck with your quest to finding the perfect machine!

Thanks for the replies, guys!
Sydd as much as I'd like to get a desktop, I live on a boat, and thus for several reasons a desktop just isn't the way to go. I'm grateful for your laptop link; it seems there are some better deals I missed! I won't be getting another Lenovo, though... my current one came with viruses in the OS! Not only that, but it freezes if I unplug it, so it has to remain plugged in if I want to use it. Very annoying.

Don't go for lenovo.. So better deals? That's great! Let us know which laptop do you go for.. Btw you're on a boat? What about internet?! Say sea turtles mate to me and I will shove you into a shell.

Yeah, I'm in the Seychelles at the moment :) Internet is a problemo grande for me, because for every new country, I need a new SIM. Internet's measured in data usage, so I'll buy a few gigs at a time for all my Internet needs... meaning that while I can use my purchased Internet to play games (usually low-intensity stuff like Insurgency), if I want to download something bigger than a few hundred megabytes, I have to do it in a bar or a café, unless I want to burn through pricey data. Thus I'm always on the lookout for somewhere I can park my boat with free Wi-Fi. I mean, I bought Arma 3 and the Arma 3 DLC bundle when they were half off a few months ago, and I have yet to finish the twelve gig download! Life abroad can be painful :( I do wish sometimes I lived in a house, if only for the unlimited, ripping Internet connection I'd have!

^ Wow that's actually pretty cool, despite the crappy Internetz. I'm pretty sure some of the people stuck in their homes/little towns would love to have the freedom to go anywhere in the world. Btw do you sail boats for a living? xD

And as far as the laptop is concerned if I were you I'd go for an ASUS too. My friend has one of the mid-to-high-end machines from 2012 and he can still run pretty much anything on lowered details today. Asus usually has great cooling compared to the low-cost alternatives...

Seychelles is that group of islands to the north of Madagascar yeah? Why are you there?! Man you take those cosplays seriously don't you ani?
Jokes apart what do you mean by different countries? And are you there for good? What would you pick? Hawaii or Seychelles?

I'm here 'cause it's a new country! I'm a cruiser, meaning I live and sail the globe aboard a boat; cruising. And yeah, I'm about six hundred miles from Madagascar at the moment. Been cruising since I left Washington state in 2008; sailed down to Mexico then headed west, and now I'm here.

Between Hawai'i and the Seychelles I'd choose the Seychelles, no question. The Seychelles has everything Hawai'i has and more, minus, perhaps, the unique culture; however, the Seychelles has an equally unique culture, being very French and generally Catholic, yet also being both Creole and Islamic. It's Africa! And there's lots of good French food ;)

And @LuckyOne I think I'll go for an ASUS, I've heard the same good things about their cooling system.
