Grenades down the hatch?

It just occurred to me that after playing some Call of Duty 3, we should have an option as a infantry man to disable a tank by throwing a grenade down a hatch.
Any updates on this?
Cheers.

If the hatch is open and you can make the throw, sure. Would basically need to be directly above the hatch though, considering the parabolic arc of a grenade throw

Not exactly sure why any tanker would let himself get into an infantry prone area without buttoning up and having infantry support though.

A newby player?
It'd be a fun and interesting way to disable his tank and watch as he rages. :)

I remember that... I'm sure it was the only way to actually destroy those overpowered tanks in CoD 3.

Basically you had to sneak up on the tanks so you could trigger an animation of you climbing up on top of the tank, openjng the hatch and dropping a grenade in. Personally I preffered running people down in the motorbike sidecar xD

Problem with that cal, is that hatchs lock on the inside. It was impossible to simply walk up and open a tank hatch from the outside.

And no, this would not cause smoke to come out of the exhaust pipe. If you did somehow manage to ambush a tank in such a way that the tanker did not have time to close the commander's hatch and you then managed to get a grenade into the crew compartment, you would just be looking at a shredded and concussively injured/dead crew, and a chance at detonating ammunition if it lands by it.

Anyways, this would be doable ingame by simply making it so that a grenade that lands on the open commander's hatch (with player inside) kills the player. But if he is buttoned up, it wouldn't do a thing of course.

Well of course, this was Call of Duty we're talking about; hardly renowned for its realism. It was quite fun though, even if innacurate.

But it's unlikely we'd incorporate that feature Alex .

I wonder, and this is me being being half asleep and not quite totally with it, if it's ever been recorded that a grenade has been thrown down the barrel of a tank?

Then you might overthrow H&G if you don't put the sticky bomb in it, but thought of it, a running joke in the game are fantasy weapons...and if you see an American soldier with the already limited No. 74 bombs...which were used only by the Home Guard, you are gonna have yourself a party .

Probably has happened but I'm not sure if would do much apart from damage the barrel rifling. The force created by a shell passing along the barrel is enormous - more than a simple frag grenade I would guess.

I remeber in a band of brothers episode that american soldiers disabled flak 88s by placing a grenade in the barrel, can a tank barrel be disabled in the same way?
but i dont think that the hull gunner will be nice with you:rolleyes:

Also band of brothers is not an accurate source for combat in WW2 :p

And Italians would only come in if we ever made it to the Italian front. Which would be nice, since then we could show the Italian Co-Belligerent Corps in action.

It would make sense - even if its a very very stupid move. The barrel on most tanks - was the prime target if you were only lightly armed (grenades, small anti tank guns) I recall when Germany was fighting the Russians - the Russians would often aim for the gun instead of trying to hit the tank itself, and they were deadly accurate.

Occasionally barrels were aimed for, but they were rather hard to hit. Only case I know of of a barrel being hit is a Panther in Southern France during Op. Dragoon. A Sherman stumbled upon the Panther, which was sitting in ambush, with only it's barrel sticking out. The gunner fired, hitting the barrel and cutting it clean off. The Panther crew bailed and was promptly captured and recognized as the same crew that had recently run rampant through american lines. There's even a book on this battle:

I do not have an idea of what you have in mind for the next chapter, anyway, when the Italians come it would be extremely cool to have the Anzio/Husky landings. Very few games have it, more rare it has been made correctly and on a beautiful engine.
