For grenades one of my biggest pet peeves in every FPS to date is how you can only throw grenades one way. If they have another way it's click and hold to adjust distance.

I would suggest instead is that if you just press g you do a general throw but if you actually switch to your grenades, so pressing 4 if that's your nade default, and you are holding your grenades you will have the nade in your hand ready for a general throw but if you mouse wheel up you get ready to do a long throw while doing a mouse wheel down will be an under hand toss. I believe this system is way more realistic an gives more options to the soldier.

for aiming I think you should have three levels of aiming. From the hip so from where the rifle sits when you walk around. From the shoulder with unfocused apature so looking down the sights but not really focused more just general direction shooting. And third would be bringing the sights right up to your eye for a focused accurate shot.the shoulder aim you right click focused shot you click and hold.

free aim refers to the rifle moving slightly left right up or down independently before the character himself turns or looks. This option is available in arma 3 called dead aim. This style of movement would affect the hip fire and shouldered unfocused shot while the focused shot remains standard FPS where's it locked into the movement of the mouse head and torso.

Edit: i should have mentioned for the grenade throws. For Allies when holding the grenade imagine yourself holding a cup full of water with your right hand. that would be the basic medium throw. Now empty that cup to the left, so you're palm down. This would be the long toss. where your character would actually have a small running animation to suggest he is really putting all his strength into the throw. Now same cup but empty it to the right, palm up, this would be the small toss. So at a house you open a door and use your grenades mouse wheel down and under hand throw the grenade in.

Seeing as they're going to make this game as realistic as possible, I don't want any aiming reticles. Period. I'm not sure about having three aiming modes, I think focused and from the hip are just fine. For grenades, I think you should have to equip your grenade, then hold down LMB (or RMB, whichever one); releasing this would throw the grenades a normal distance, around ten feet. However, you should be able to scroll the mouse wheel to shorten or lengthen the shot. You should also be able to equip your grenades and stand up beside a corner, and click LMB or RMB; this would result in you tossing the grenade around the corner. Such a move would be realistic, and useful is close quarters combat, in buildings for example.

There are not going to be aiming reticles. Generally you'll want to aim down the sight to hit anything that isn't standing right next to you.

Aniallator: You'd better suggest making the standard throwing distance 10 yards. Grenades have a 50 yard blast radius wherein shrapnel would basically maul everything. A secondary button to cook the grenades, like in RO/MN/DH, would be a lot more useful. If you know how to use this, you can spray shrapnel through a bunker slit and kill the nearest MG gunner.

Oh, I know you never meant reticles, I just wanted to put it out there :) th_battleaxe perhaps different grenades have different normal throwing ranges? For example, the Mills bomb was quite a bit heavier than the Stielhandgranate 43. I would also like to see the ability to cook grenades, this would be a nice feature.
